The urban design project methodological approach puts local inhabitants at the heart of the dialogue process, without demolition being a prerequisite. The project takes the existing high-rise social housing blocks as its departure point to conceive a housing geometry on a smaller scale whilst taking care not to recreate isolated blocks. The plan integrates itself into the quarter’s framework and accentuates it by varying heights creating open outlooks. The alternation of free and constructed space enables arrangements in staggered rows. The definition of a volume inside which the buildings can be deployed gave the architects the freedom to create diverse architectural entities. The two housing projects designed by TVK have a distinctive, very different form that reinvents the typology of the high-rise social housing block.
